The right tool(s) for the right job: Fusing testing and simulation

Posted by Graeme Short

Those who follow this blog regularly, or know anything about SSA, will know that the company is entirely focused on delivering simulation technologies as a tool to anyone who wants a better insight into how structures behave under the action of some loading. Whatever form this  ‘delivery’ takes, the aim is to simulate reality at an appropriate level of accuracy and extract data from this model so that good decisions can be made efficiently: those decisions might be as detailed as ‘is this radius too small’ or ‘how many bolts do we need’, up to questions as open and prosaic as ‘is this structure safe?’.

Join our Civil Engineering Webinar

Posted by Riccardo Masoni

In the previous webinar on civil engineering and Abaqus, we covered the basic topics in modelling buildings and infrastructures.  First we introduced the principal material models used in this field, with a focus on the Concrete Damaged Plasticity model. Structural elements – in particular beam and shell elements – have been described in detail, presenting several special applications and the construction of the model of a steel framed building. Also, a detailed description of different techniques used to model reinforced-concrete were described.

UK SIMULIA Symposium

I can’t say I look forward to the SSA Customer day (or SIMULIA Symposium as we’ve renamed it) every year… There’s too much to do, too much to think about and too much to worry about.  Things like “what if nobody shows up?” As it turned out I needn’t have worried about the last point overly.

Can I compare fe-safe to a code assessment . . .

Posted by Sam Swift

. . . or any other method that I’m more familiar with? I need to justify this to my customer/ to my boss/ for my own understanding. This is a question I’m often faced when proposing fatigue simulation as a viable option to calculating fatigue life as part of a larger project.
