Simulation for AEC

Creative architectural design demands simulation approaches which push beyond traditional software and techniques. This free event is aimed at engineers in the AEC Industry who have had some exposure to simulation, FEA and CFD but would like to look at exploring how advanced systems like Abaqus and XFlow could extend the scope of what they do.

The morning session will focus on structural analysis techniques, and Abaqus in particular whilst the afternoon will cover transient fluid dynamics using XFlow.

Drawing on advances in material modelling and definition, and optimised and automated simulation workflows, the day starts with a lecture session covering the essential concepts of nonlinear simulation for structures with AEC. Following on will be presentations of practical examples covering:

  • Structural assessment of steel and concrete structures.AEC Model.png

  • Roof bolt/pin/plate analysis 

  • Glass curtaining blast analysis

The use of computational fluid dynamics in the built environment is nothing new, however as Lattice Boltzman techniques become more widespread their ability to resolve highly transient and turbulent flows inside and around buildings is increasingly being exploited. The presentations will look at how XFlow has been used in a number of Civil and Architectural scenarios including:

  • Wind & Seismic loading of building and bridges

  • HVAC

  • Water Management
